After finishing the course I had the opportunity of working as an apprentice with the clarinet maker and woodwind repairer Daniel Bangham. In his shop Wood, Wind and Reed in Cambridge, I had an invaluable opportunity to practise the skills I had learned at the college.
I established my own workshop in Linköping, Sweden 1988. 1994 I was invited to visit the oboe maker Lorée in France to further my knowledge of oboe repairs. Spending two weeks repairing only oboes and cor anglais was difficult, but a very useful experience which gave me a deep and thorough understanding of its function.
The bassoon maker Schreiber’s offer in 1996 to visit their factory was also very welcome. I had already repaired many bassoons but at their factory I got a much deeper knowledge about materials, lacquers et.c.
